Reaction to the Final Episode of Battlestar Galactica

I went into this episode feeling that, if they could wrap up all the storylines in a satisfactory manner, the re-imagined BSG would have a fighting claim to the title of Best Televised Science Fiction Ever.

Having seen the episode:

I want everybody responsible for writing this to be anally violated by badgers.

Angry, sadistic, rabid badgers.

That are on fire.

But does it get the prize?

I doubt it. It managed to actually invalidate and/or make completely worthless large swaths of the series, thus making merely failing to wrap up the storylines a more attractive prospect.

I'm kind of impressed, actually.

It will be part of the discussion, certainly. The good bits are that good. But fireborn is right; it really did cast a pall over a number of long-standing plot threads. It's a bewildering magnitude of fail.

I'm so frakked off

What a "frakin'" lame finale as i've ever seen. So embarrassed i watched it up until the end expectin' at least somert excitin'. This episode was even lamer than the word frakkin.

While the badgers do their work, I want them to read the Turkey City Lexicon, specifically "Adam and Eve Story".

It was...what it was. Is there really any way they could have managed to wrap everything up that wasn't lame and cliche? Meh. I don't think so. I think they should go back to season two and take another crack at a new direction. I know it won't happen but there is so much they COULD have done with the series that was left hanging.

I'm really glad that I didn't read this until after I had seen the episode. Coloring people's view before seeing it is a high offense - right up there with spoilers.

You, sir, have expectations that are too high. A lot of the stuff in the episode had to happen. Sure, some of it could have been presented differently. All in all, it wasn't that bad. Definitely not worthy of sadistic badgers from hell.

I enjoyed watching the last episode. It was appropriately bittersweet, it had spacebattle awesomeness and emotional drama, and it tied up many of the loose plotlines. I wasn't sure how they were going to wrap things up so quickly, but what they did with it worked. The series will be remembered fondly. I see that you wanted it to be THE MOST AWESOMEST EVAR. Tough cookies. Hey, maybe it will be anyway. How would that make you feel, Mr. I'm-the-reason-you-can't-have-nice-things?

This comment does not accurately portray my initial anger at reading your review. Stick it behind an LJ-cut. Let people form their own opinions, and then they can hear yours.

You know, I have to admit, I wasn't sure about some of the color choices, but now I have to agree! That new suit really brings out the emperor's eyes, doesn't it?

Ahem.

Politeness, plz. Or refrain from commenting if that's too much to ask.

1) Nonsense and 2) anybody whose opinion is so easily swayed really has nobody but themselves to blame if they read a post titled "Reaction to the Final Episode of Battlestar Galactica."

No, my expectations were quite reasonable. I hoped for excellence, but only expected something that would be good. Instead I got an ending that was a trite and completely inappropriate cliche, longstanding plot threads that were resolved and painfully stupid ways, and complete betrayals of characters I've grown to love.

The series will indeed be remembered fondly -- but that will be despite the finale, not because of it.

This was wretched storytelling.

So...I shouldn't finish netflixing this?

The fact that I actually hesitated before answering "Yes" speaks volumes to the depth of my disgust with the finale.

But ... yes. It's an imperfect series, but one with consistently high quality and liberally sprinkled with moments of excellence. And really, what more can you ask from a TV series?

Just ... be warned. The answer to "Wow, where are they going with this?" will be, for a number of things, "No place you want to visit."

Erm. The way you phrased the question, I guess my answer is technically "No."

But you get what I meant, I hope.

Yeah, thanks :) It sounds like my experience watching the first two seasons of the show so far. Some really excellent stuff and some stuff that left me scratching my head (not in the good way).

I'll keep watching. I'll just expect it to let me down on an X-Files level.
